Modern Cumbrian Jokes arose from an invitation from Grizedale Arts and involved us working with Florence Arts Centre in Egremont to gather jokes from this Northern region of the UK. We were interested in finding out whether there was something local and specific to what people found funny in West Cumbria. As well as online, we collected jokes in person by setting up a stall during Egremont Crab Fair. All the jokes were then published in a book that combined them with graphic forms, based upon the 'modern' typography associated with suprematist and constructivist design.
